State and county Census data: find your community
Start with an area to see its population history and cross-topic profile. State and county pages use their own Census identifiers and source observations, with the period and denominator beside every measure.
Find a state or county profile
Select a state, then open its overview or choose a county. Profiles contain population history, household income, housing, insurance, education and commuting statistics.
Coverage: 50 states, D.C., and 3,144 counties or county equivalents. Territories are outside this release.

Which geographic area answers your question?
A state profile gives statewide context. A county profile uses county residents and households, including the producer’s county equivalents. A city proper, metropolitan area, school district and healthcare service area are different geographic entities; county values must not be relabeled as a city estimate. Cities and metros are not numeric profile types in this release.
Connecticut uses planning regions in the ACS county-equivalent directory. Alaska boroughs and census areas, Louisiana parishes and some independent cities also appear according to source definitions. The District of Columbia is explicitly labeled a federal district. Puerto Rico and other territories are outside the current collection.
Compare a community with an appropriate benchmark
The place comparison tool accepts two to five compatible areas. A county profile includes its state benchmark; national reference values come from national source observations. The state rankings use 50-state point-estimate orderings with methods and uncertainty, while profiles emphasize the characteristics of a selected area.
Annual population history refers to July 1 observations from PEP Vintage 2025. ACS characteristics describe 2020–2024 and retain the five-year label. Different dates can coexist in a profile, but they must stay visible. Every profile supplies CSV observations and selected raw source cells for research.
